Are therapy sessions covered by OHIP or extended health insurance plans? +

Psychotherapy services are not covered by OHIP but are partially covered by many extended health insurance plans. Please verify coverage with your insurance provider as coverage varies between plans and providers.

Here are some questions you may want to ask your insurance provider:

  • Does my health insurance plan include mental health benefits?
  • Do I have a deductible or is a percentage of the fees covered? If so, what is it and have I met it yet?
  • Does my plan limit how many sessions per calendar year I can have? If so, what is the limit?
  • Do I need written approval from my primary care physician for services to be covered by my insurance plan?

Do you provide therapy over the phone or via video? +

Yes, I offer teletherapy via phone and secure video platforms. Teletherapy sessions are confidential and secure so you may engage in the process of therapy in a way that is convenient for you and which fits your busy schedule.

How do I get started with therapy? +

To get started with therapy, you can email me at jaswir@dhillonpsychotherapy.com or fill out the contact form on this website.

What can I expect during my first therapy session? +

Our first session together is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and it will provide both of us an opportunity to assess whether I would be able to help you work through the concerns that bring you to therapy. Once we determine that there is a fit between us, we will work together to develop a treatment plan tailored to your specific goals and needs.

How long does therapy take? +

Therapy is a process of:

  • Gaining insight into beliefs, patterns of thinking and behaviour that may be holding you back;
  • Healing from pain and challenges that you may have experienced in the past and may be experiencing now; and
  • Growing into an individual who experiences a sense of wellbeing, has a healthy relationshiip with self and others and experiences life as meaningful and satisfying.

This process of insight, healing and growth takes time and is different for all of us. Therefore, it is hard to specify how long therapy will take. I would be able to provide you with a better idea on when you would be able to experience some of the positive effects of therapy based on your specific concerns and the treatment plan that we develop together.
